150 words about 29 miles and a crazy Venn diagram
I was late to the Clocktower ride a few weeks ago and found another rider a few miles later grousing that no one showed up for the ride. So we rode together. It wasn’t the first time, but there’s a big difference in a group ride and riding together for a couple of hours. I learned he’d just moved here from Arizona, and I recommended a bike mechanic. I didn’t ask what brought him here; I asked about cycling there and what he expected here. Because that’s what you talk about. I heard yesterday he died of a heart attack on a ride. He was 38. While it’s easy to say “live every day like it’s your last,” I think the real lesson is that cycling is one crazy Venn diagram, and the bigger the circles we make, the better off we all are. Even if the intersections are brief.
