Rick, another fabulous post! It made me recall doing the 2014 Rollfast Gran Fondo in Carmel Indiana. George Hincapie was there and I got to start the ride out with him in the Peloton. Despite finishing 30 min behind George, I was still blown away to even be on the same ride; so I get exactly what you are saying. All that aside, the BBC has been talking with the Hammerfest organizers and we were planning to participate. I'm certain that your post will encourage others to join in. Major kudos indeed!
