I love your words.

I have determined that if I end up doing the pre-ride, there is no point in showing up for the race---I already got what I came for---quality time with folks without the sticky weight of performance. I also underestimate the magic that surprise and novelty often provide with pain management, which we opt to forsake with riding a route so close to game time. 😅😩

Good post and pics. I noticed you working on your bike last Saturday and had expected to see you pass me again. This was my first ever gravel event after buying a gravel bike this summer. It was also my 70th birthday ride and certainly felt harder than the conventional birthday 70-mile road ride. Those descents were challenging. I “won” my age category by default as there were no other “hero” entrants. While riding, I had lots of time to debate whether “hero” or “fool” was the more apt description. I have several gravel races on my calendar but doubt any will be as challenging as Shake & Brake.

Thanks for sharing Rick. I rode up there a few weeks back and was supposed to ride the Shake and Brake but had some family issues happen so was unable to. It is beautiful up there!
